St. Mary’s has all the right moves at national dance competitionUnder the direction of Beverly Buckley and Jade Cipolla ’08, Stephanie Aucello ’19, Caroline Ball ’20, Jennifer Harlow-Powell ’19, Alyssa McGrath ’17, Ashley McGrath ’21, and Marissa Waite ’20 earned numerous Championship Awards at the StepUp2Dance National Competition held in Manchester, N.H., July 8-12.As first-time national competitors, the St. Mary’s dance team shined with two outstanding performances capturing High Gold Awards, and placed as first runner-up in jazz and second runner-up in tap performances.Aucello won the Platinum First Place National award as a first-time competitor with her vocal solo performance of “Turning Tables.” She also earned seventh place Overall High Point Champion of the day. Alyssa McGrath received a High Gold, First Place National Award for her Teen Division solo, “Parting Glass.” Ashley McGrath received a High Gold, First Place National Award for her Junior Teen Division solo, “Rock This Town.”The dance team will perform tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the North Shore Navigators’ home game at Fraser Field to celebrate their competition success and the school’s state championship baseball team.
