The North Shore Generals dropped a 23-17 thriller in overtime on Saturday night to the Lowell Nor’easter in Lowell.
Lowell running back Joe Harris caught a pass from quarterback Tim Bushey and took it 48 yards for the game-winning score.
The Generals forced overtime on a 23-yard touchdown run by Chris Lane with two minutes left in the game. Lane’s score was set up by some excellent blocking from fullback Ernie Jones and offensive lineman Brian Kureta.
Once again, defensive lineman Edward Owens-Finch of Lynn had a big game. Owens-Finch had two sacks and blocked Lowell’s 39-yard field goal attempt at the end of the fourth quarter to help extend the Generals’ chances. The Generals defense played tough all night, getting interceptions from Alex Watler and Davaughn Goss, and a fumble recovery from Andre Langley.
A series of plays in the second quarter included scoring on three consecutive plays.
Generals kicker Klenis Haxhaij hit a 47-yard field goal to make it 7-3 Lowell. On the ensuing kickoff, Lowell returner Anthony Courtois took the ball 90 yards for a score, putting Lowell up, 14-3. One the very next play, Generals standout Jesse Fowler of Lynn took the ball on the kickoff and went 84 yards for a touchdown, making it 14-10.
Lowell got on the scoreboard on the first play of the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Tim Bushey to tight end Shane Bushey.
The Generals moved the ball on offense all night, but stalled in the red zone repeatedly.
The Generals (2-2) travel to Smithfield, R.I., on Saturday night to take on the Rhode Island Wardogs (2-2).
