BOSTON – Eastern Bank has announced the appointment of Steven L. Antonakes as senior vice president and chief compliance officer.He will report directly to Barbara Heinemann, executive vice president of Eastern Bank’s enterprise risk management division.He is a graduate of Lynn public schools and will work out of the Lynn operations center.Antonakes, who most recently served as deputy director and the associate director for supervision, enforcement and fair lending at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), brings 25 years of compliance, risk management and financial services experience to Eastern Bank.Antonakes was appointed by successive governors to serve as the Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks from December 2003 to November 2010. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Penn State University, an MBA from Salem State University and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University.Founded in 1818 and based in Boston, Eastern Bank is the largest and oldest mutual bank in the country, with $9.7 billion in assets and more than 100 branches serving communities in eastern Massachusetts and southern and coastal New Hampshire.
