LYNN – State and Lynn Police are investigating an accident that happened near 50 South Common St. early evening Wednesday in which a motorcycle driven by a man and a car driven by a woman collided.The motorcyclist struck the woman’s driver-side door around 5:30 p.m., and the car veered into the commons area, landing between trees. Extensive damage was done to both vehicles.It appears the motorcyclist was “traveling in the inside lane at a high rate of speed,” said Sgt. Robert Godbout, though he also said it was still being investigated.The man was thrown from the motorcycle, Godbout said, and his helmet came off and landed across the street.Godbout said he believes both drivers are residents of Lynn.Both victims were taken to Salem Hospital for treatment. The driver of the car is in stable condition, police said. The motorcyclist was later med-flighted to Massachusetts General Hospital.A large police presence was still on the scene around 9:30 p.m., when the car was towed away.
