Runners of all ages gathered at the Manning Field track on Friday night to participate in the one-hour race. The rules are simple: Run as much as you can in a one-hour time period. There were two races, one for men and one for women.
There were two American records set in the women?s race. Caterina Misuraca, 34, of Gloucester finished first in the women?s race and broke her own age-group record from last year, running 10.34 miles. The other record-breaker was Jan Holmquist of Burlington. At 71, she ran 7.23 miles to break the American record for her age group.
Ildi Gaal, 23, of Somerville finished second in the women?s race, completing 9.42 miles. Gloucester?s Regina Loiacano, 42, completed 9.37 miles to finish in third place.
Katherine Matthews, 46, of Lynn and Christine Stevens, 51, of Nahant tied for fifth place, each completing 4.34 miles.
There was also an American record set in the men?s race. Lou Peters, 90, of Methuen. completed 3.88 miles to break the record for his age group. Just in front of him, 85-year-old Dennis Branham of Providence, R.I., completed 5.74 miles, just missing his age-group record.Nick Taormina, 42, of Groveland finished first in the men?s race, completing 9.97 miles. Ryan Collins, 30, of Hyde Park finished second with 9.83 miles. James Pawlicki, 40, of Lynn was third with 9.74 miles, and Nakri Dao, 42, of Lynn finished fourth with 9.15 miles completed.
