It?s not every day that you get to go out shopping and buy items that aren?t taxable. This weekend saw shoppers from all over as stores were jam-packed with buyers ready to take advantage of deals and savings. At Home Depot on Route 1 in Saugus, buyers were seen loading their vehicles with big purchases and big smiles. One shopper from Lynn, Susan Faulkner, found herself needing items that would help her “spruce up” her home and garden.?I bought a battery charged weed wacker, because it was a great price and I knew that it was something I needed,” said Faulkner. “This weekend was a great way for me to take charge of my yard and fix things up before the bad weather comes.”A couple from Malden also took advantage of Home Depot?s sales for their son Drew, who is off to college in the fall. Seen buying a mini fridge, a carpet and some storage items, James and Barbara Fitzpatrick explained that Home Depot?s savings were convenient.?They had good sales on fridges and it?s what my son wanted,” said James. “If you use your Home Depot card you get a 5 percent discount even if you buy sale items and then? well it?s no tax. It?s great!” Barbara added.Nancy Siegel from Swampscott, her daughter Jackie Liakopoulos and her husband Peter were seen buying a grill. Siegel, who was excited to celebrate her daughter?s and son-in-law?s anniversary, looked around for a reasonably priced grill and found Home Depot to be the best place to go.?This is where they had this particular grill and even though it was busy, I got it,” she said. “I?m happy to buy this for my daughter and son-in-law as an anniversary present.”Home Depot also saw a buyer from Revere, Carlos Penaranda, who didn?t realize it was tax-free weekend until he looked at the receipt of the item he?d bought. Happy with his purchase of pressure treated wood for home repairs, he said he would definitely be “going somewhere else, maybe Lowes or Macy?s” to take advantage of the savings before the day ends.
