After fighting its way through the loser’s bracket of the Gallant tournament over the weekend, Salem has put itself in a position to win the whole thing. Needing two wins to take the title, Salem beat previously unbeaten Danvers, 4-2, Tuesday at O’Grady Field in Salem. The two teams will face off in a deciding game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
Salem struck first in the bottom of the first. After two walks to start the inning, Jake Miano knocked a single to give Salem a 1-0 lead. William Foglietta followed that up with another RBI single, and Guillermo Pimental hit a sacrifice fly to put Salem up by three runs.
After tacking on one more run in the second inning, Salem breezed through the rest of the game before Danvers posted two runs in the top of the sixth.Tommy Beauregard got the start on the mound for Salem. He kept Danvers hitless through the first three innings. Beauregard remained in the game until he got into a bit of trouble in the sixth, and Austin Foglietta came in the close the game.
