With two seconds remaining in the game, North Shore Generals’ quarterback Kelvin Amparo scrambled out of the pocket and ran 8 yards for the winning score to beat the Lowell Nor’easter, 6-0, Saturday night at Manning Field.
Amparo’s scramble may have provided the only score, but the Generals defense was the story of the game. The unit held Lowell running backs Joe Harris and Nate Adames to under 50 yards on the ground, and it kept Lowell out of the end zone all night.
Leading the way on defense was Lynn’s own Tony Johnson, Chris George, Moses Valentin, and Edward Owens-Finch along with Andre Langley and Brandon Langley.
The Generals moved the ball well on offense all night, but they were stymied by untimely turnovers and penalties. Running back Chris Lane ran well behind an offensive line that was solid, while wide receiver Jesse Pearce had several key receptions and did a good job blocking from his position.
“We played team football tonight,” said Generals’ head coach John Morant. “The defense was great all night. We didn’t give them anything. This division is a dogfight every week.”
The win moves the Generals record to 3 -3 on the season and leaves them in a four-way tie for second place in the New England Football League’s AAA Northern Division.
The Generals host their division rival, the Boston Bandits, on Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Manning Field.
