Junior forward Eric Pedro had two goals and two assists to help lift the St. Mary’s boys’ hockey team over Lowell Catholic, 6-1, at home on Wednesday night. Freshman forward Colin Reddy had a goal and an assist, while junior defenseman Marc Zampanti and junior forward Dante Maribito had two assists each.

Sophomore forward Ryan Turenne, senior forward Tom Frati and junior forward Mike Desmond also scored goals for the Spartans (7-1). Junior defenseman Andrew Kreamer and freshman defenseman Kyle Ouellette each had one assist.

Goaltender Andrew LoRusso shut out Lowell for two periods and was then relieved by Kevin McMullen, marking his first varsity appearance.

“It was nice to take two points from them,” said Spartans coach Mark Lee. Lowell was undefeated going into the game.

Marblehead 1, Peabody 1

The Magicians and the Tanners skated to a draw in a Northeastern Conference matchup on Wednesday night. Junior Braden Haley scored the lone goal for Marblehead (6-0-1) on an assist from junior Drew Cioffi. Marblehead goalie Ronan Cunningham had 23 saves.

For Peabody (3-2-1), junior Chris Gillen scored on an assist from senior captain Owen Brewster with 2:26 remaining in the third period to tie the score. Tanners Goalie Aaron McDonnell had 23 saves.

Saugus 2, Danvers 2

Saugus is still without a win on the young season after a tie with Danvers at home. Pat Cross and Christian Patterson scored goals for Saugus (0-4-2).

“It was a good back and forth game by both teams,” said Saugus coach Jeff Natalucci. “It was definitely a hard-fought tie.”

Lynnfield 6, Masconomet 4

After falling behind, 4-0, midway through the second period, the Pioneers rattled off six unanswered goals to notch a come-from-behind win over Masconomet at home on Wednesday night. Dan O’Leary led the way for Lynnfield with two goals and two assists. Derek Crampe had a goal and two assists, while John DeRoche and Robert LoConte each had a goal and an assist. Matt Miller had one goal, Jagger Benson had two assists and Cooper Marengi had one assist.

After rallying all the way back to tie it up, it was LoConte who netted the go-ahead goal with about two minutes left in the game.

Beverly 3, Winthrop 1

The Panthers trailed, 1-0, with six minutes remaining in the third period before they scored three unanswered goals to steal a win from Winthrop at home. Beverly’s Hunter Spencer tied the game up with a little less than six minutes to go, then Sean Hanlon gave the Panthers the lead just a few minutes later. Timmy McCarthy added an empty-netter to seal the win for the Panthers.

St. John’s Prep 2, Malden Catholic 2

Tim Usalis and Scott Newton were the goal scorers for St. John’s as the Eagles (5-0-2) skated to a tie with Malden Catholic at home on Wednesday. Dan Hennessey notched an assist for St. John’s.

GIRLS’ HOCKEY

Auburn 4, Bishop Fenwick 3

The Crusaders (3-4-1) battled throughout the game, but were unable to capitalize on several important chances that could have won them the game. Despite pulling the goalie in the last few minutes of the third period, the Crusaders just couldn’t bury the puck. Allie Giguere, Meghan Carney and Lauren Coccoluto each had a goal and an assist on the night.

Beverly 7, Marblehead 1

Beverly’s offense was on fire on its home ice on Wednesday. Izzy Primack, Anna O’Neill and Marlee Hamor were among the goal scorers for the Panthers.
