The Swampscott boys’ indoor track team fell to Marblehead, 69-17, in a meet with events dominated by Marblehead.
For Marblehead, Mitch Norcross (5 feet, 8 inches), George Goetz (5-8) and Andrew Dearborn (5-6) swept the high jump. Goetz also won the 55-meter hurdles (8.3 seconds). Jaason Lopez won the 55 (6.6), Jacob Wikar took first in the 300 (39.8), Pete Morrison won the 600 (1:37.4), Oliver Jacob won the 1000 (2:50.7), Michael Weidenbruch took first in the mile (4:52) and Nate Cayen won the 2-mile (11:12).
Swampscott’s Rian Flynn took first place (40-11 1/2) and Themo Liakopoulos came in third (39-3 1/2) in the shot put.
The Big Blue’s girls’ indoor track team faced a similar fate, losing to the Magicians, 54-31.
Marblehead’s Corinne Mayle won the high jump (4-6), with Swampscott’s Kendall Rhodes and Haley Bernhardt tying for second (4-4).
Marblehead’s other wins came from Jocelyn Smith in the 55 hurdles (9.4), Lydia Bongiorno in the 300 (44.3), Ana Hecht in the 1000 (3:23) and Jillian King in the mile (5:50).
The Big Blue’s Maisie Vasquez (31-5 1/2) and Taylor McBurney came in first and second, respectively, in the shot put. Swampscott’s Bailey Shorr placed first in the 55 (7.7), and Veronica Rizzo won the 2-mile (13:39).
The Big Blue team of Jackie Frosoli, Sara Martin, Shorr and Miranda Nocera took the the 4×400 relay.
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Everett 51, Lynn Classical 48
Just one week after beating Everett on the road, the Rams came up just short against the Crimson Tide on Wednesday night on Classical’s home court.
“It’s a tough loss for us, especially since we just beat them on their home court last week,” said Classical coach Tom Sawyer. “But give all the credit to Everett, they played us tough and played a great game.”
Soneta Srey was the leading scorer for the Rams (6-4) with 18 points. Chenysse Hill added 14 points in the loss.
Bishop Fenwick 76, Medford 23
The Crusaders (5-2) were able to top Medford with the help of senior captains Colleen Corcoran and Sydney Brennan. Corcoran had 18 points, 13 rebounds and five steals, while Brennan had 12 points and three steals. Mikayla Porcaro and Jennie Meagher each had nine rebounds for Fenwick.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Medway 44, Peabody 38
Junior Estrella was the leading scorer in the loss for Peabody (2-4), dropping 19 points. Matt D’Amato also had a solid night with 11 points.
SWIMMING AND DIVING
Fenwick 86, St. Mary’s 73
The Crusaders came away with a win over their rivals on the road, taking first place in all 11 events.
Rowan Emerson won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.72) and Catherine Christuk won the 200 individual medley (2:20.37). Connor Christuk won the 100 butterfly (1:01.84) and the 100 backstroke (1:03.03), Emily Ambeliotis won the 50 freestyle (26.29) and 100 freestyle (59.22) and Sophia Lumino won the 200 freestyle (2:09.22) and 500 freestyle (5:41.75). The 200 medley team of Sarah Long, Emerson, Ambeliotis and Michael D’Iorio finished first, (2:03.25), as did the 200 freestyle team of Emerson, Catherine Christuk, Garrett Collins and Lumino (1:53.50) and the 400 freestyle relay team of Long, Ambeliotis, Lumino and Catherine Christuk (4:03.22).
WRESTLING
Triton 62, Marblehead 6
Ian Shevory (106 pounds) was the lone winner for the Magician’s during their match against tough Division 3 Triton.
St. John’s Prep 48, BC High 15
The Eagles (16-1) had a very successful meet against BC High, getting wins from Ryan Garlitz (106), Malcolm Mitchell (120), Hunter Costa (138), Sam Bluzard (152), David Yepez (170), Spencer Jenkins (182), Ben Klien (195), Jake Topel (220) and Jay Carnevale (285).
GYMNASTICS
Peabody 122.05, Essex Tech 119.15
Jessica Reid took first place in the all-around for Peabody with a 32.8. Reid also finished first on the bars (7.9), the beam (8.5) and the floor (8.6). Aubrey Irvine finished second in the all-around (29.15) and tied for third in the vault (8.2).
