A fast start and more strong goaltending from goalie Jack Stafford helped the Lynn Jets stay undefeated as they beat Danvers, 4-0, at Endicott College on Saturday. It marks the first time in Jets program history that the team has beaten the Falcons.
At 5:12 in the first period, Sean Devin got the Jets on the board with assists from Troy Petkevitch and John DiFilippo. Caleb Reddick added to the lead just over a minute later with assists from Brett Molea and Steve Patrie.
In the second, the Jets got goals from Jon Kosmas (assist from Molea) and Kevin Morgan (assist from Brian Clougherty).
Stafford made 25 saves for his fourth shutout this season.
“Our energy was very good early and that had a huge impact on the game,” said Jets coach Joe Conlon. “Great effort and focus across the board from the team.”
“The team’s been playing great in front of me, and we’re getting a lot of contributions from a lot of people,” Stafford said. “The coaches have been great, the captains have been great. We’re a very close knit team and we’re playing very well right now.”
St. Mary’s 6, Archbishop Williams 2
The Spartans handed Williams their first league loss and improved to 8-1 with the win.
Dante Maribito scored twice for St. Mary’s, Eric Pedro had a goal and two assists, Conor Foley and Colin Reddy had a goal apiece and sophomore defenseman Nico Scali scored his first career goal.
Three goals in five minutes late in the first period were key to the win, according to Spartans coach Mark Lee.
“Really, just an outstanding high school hockey game, and it was great to come out with a win,” Lee said.
Marblehead 7 Salem 0
The Magicians also remain unbeaten after a blowout win against the Witches.
Braden Haley scored twice for Marblehead, and Paul Duffy, Chris Parthum, James McCarthy, Drew Cioffi and freshman Jacob Garfield scored one apiece. For Garfield, it was the first goal of his high school career.
Goalies Josh Tassinari and Ronan Cunningham combined for the shutout.
“We rolled out four lines and everyone played well,” Marblehead coach Bob Jackson said.
Saugus 8 Revere 1
The Sachems roared past the Patriots (4-3-2) for their first win of the season.
Ryan Groark got the scoring started for the Sachems (1-4-2) off a pass from Mike Sarnacchiaro. Later in the first period, Brendan Ronan slid a pass over to Brenden Patterson as they broke away from the defense, and Patterson gave Saugus a 2-0 lead. Patterson added to the lead again in the second as he put back a rebound. Dante McGrane tipped a shot in later in the period, and John Torres made it 5-0 Saugus on a breakaway.
McGrane was also credited with an assist on junior defenseman Brett Morey’s goal, the first goal of his career. Freshman forward Ronnie Paolo scored the first goal of his career as well, and Nick Moore capped the scoring in the third, also scoring the first of his career.
Rick Brianna had the only goal for Revere, who were missing their top two defensemen due to injury and illness.
“We were flat, and Saugus took it to us,” Revere coach Joe Ciccarello said.
Lynnfield 6, Pentucket 2
Two goals and two assists from Dan O’Leary helped lead the Pioneers past league opponent Pentucket on Saturday. Cooper Marengi, Derek Crampe and Jagger Benson each had goals as well.
Arlington Catholic 6, Bishop Fenwick 0
It was a tough night for Fenwick, as the first four Arlington Catholic shots found the back of the net. The Crusaders fall to 4-5-0.
“We just had a tough game. Hopefully, we got that bad one out of our system,” Fenwick coach Chuck Allen said. “The kids didn’t quit, they played hard until the end. We rolled out four lines and some of the younger kids got a chance to show the coaches what they could do.”
Winthrop 5, Gloucester 4
Offense was not hard to come by in this one. Winthrop’s Mike Norris and Gloucester’s Robbie Horne both scored in the first, but in the second period, the Vikings dominated, taking a commanding 5-2 lead heading into the third. Sam Yarrow scored twice for Winthrop in the period, and Henry Brooks and Dean Paulson had a goal apiece for the Vikings. Three of the Vikings’ four goals in the period came on power plays. Gloucester’s Alex Enes scored late in the period.
The Fishermen made a comeback in the third as Brendan Poliskey scored on a power play and Sal Constanzo scored to get Gloucester within one with less than three minutes remaining. The Fishermen (4-4-1) couldn’t complete the comeback, and the Vikings (4-3-2) held on for the win.
St. John’s Prep 2, Xaverian 2
Sean Thomsen and Paul Edson both scored for the Prep in the tie. Eagles’ coach Kristian Hanson said it was good to get a point against a very solid Xaverian team.
“It’s always a battle in a Catholic Conference game. We headed down to Foxboro, it took a little while to get our legs going,” Hanson said. “We had a 2-1 lead until they tied in the second. In the third period I thought we controlled the play, but we couldn’t find a way to get that third goal.”
