PEABODY — The Peabody Democratic City Committee will hold a candidates forum Thursday, Jan. 21 in City Hall for candidates running in the Feb. 2 special election primary for state representative.

Democrats James Moutsoulas, Thomas Walsh and Craig Welton have been invited to attend the 7-to-8 p.m. forum in Wiggin Auditorium.

Local Democrats will cast votes Feb. 2 for one of the three men to advance to the March 1 final election.

Republicans will also vote the same day to send either Jaclyn Corriveau or Stephanie Peach to run in the final election.

Independent Chris Gallagher’s name will also be on the March 1 ballot.

Committee Vice Chairman Thomas Gould and Massachusetts Democratic State Committeeman Arthur Powell will moderate the forum. Questions for the candidates may be submitted to Debbie Ryan at [email protected] or by calling 978-531-7961.

Voters who go to the polls March 1 will pick state Rep. Leah Cole’s successor.

Peach and Corriveau announced plans to run for the 12th Essex District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in September, soon after Cole announced she was leaving the House to focus on her nursing career.

Peach, according to a State House News Service report, served as Cole’s legislative aide and Corriveau worked as campaign manager to Peabody City Councilor Anne Manning-Martin.

Moutsoulas and Walsh are City Councilors and Welton is the director of Best Buddies Massachusetts.
