In a close meet, the Danvers co-ed swim team swept the three relays to take home the 105-81 win over Lynn English on Tuesday.
Jared Casey and Cambria Cloutier were both multiple winners for the Falcons. Casey won both the 500-yard freestyle and the 200 individual medley, while Cloutier won the 200 freestyle and 100 backstroke. Tim Unczur won the 100 breaststroke and Jackson McPherson won the diving event. McPherson’s score of 209.05 was good enough to qualify for both sectionals and states.
Brandon Musaku was a multiple winner for the Bulldogs, finishing first in both the 50 freestyle (23.75 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (53.55). Matt Bruno placed first in the 100 butterfly (1:03.68) and second in the 200 freestyle.
English freshman Peter Phelan had two second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:25.59) and the 100 breaststroke (1:16.30). Kylie Moorehouse notched a personal-best time in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.98 seconds for the Bulldogs, and Caroline Zuffante finished second in the 500 freestyle (5:57.73) to qualify for sectionals. Katie MacDonald finished second in diving and Uajda Musaku finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:09.51).
Lynn Classical 101, Gloucester 74
Carly Mendonca set a new Lynn Classical women’s record in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.28 seconds. The previous record was set 18 years ago by Melanie Connolly.
Classical’s (3-2) Kevin Chasse won both the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, while Eric Macorri won the 200 freestyle. Sarah Sirois finished first in diving for the Rams. Classical also swept the relays, winning the 200 medley relay (Mendonca, Cameron Marcinko, Mehdi Bakouch and Alex Pedro) the 200 freestyle relay (Macorri, Pedro, Harrison Seitz and Eli Bakas) and the 400 freestyle relay (Mendonca, Macorri, Alaina Gridley and Craig Mordaunt).
Swampscott 98, Salem 78
The Big Blue’s win over the Witches came not only from their top swimmers placing first, but various other swimmers who took second and third in their respective events. Swampscott’s Kasey Kennedy placed first in both the 500 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke. Will Cronin took second in the 50 freestyle (27:41). Tess Diaz’s win in the 100 freestyle qualified her for sectionals.
Salem’s winners were Lily Jerzylo in the 200 freestyle, Renne Venico in the 50 freestyle, Aidan Keenan in the 100 butterfly, Amy Nguyen in the 100 freestyle and Reshelle Venico in the 100 backstroke.
Marblehead 97, Peabody 62
The Magicians remain undefeated after a win over Peabody. Marblehead’s Tom Rockett finished first in the 50 freestyle (25.64 seconds), Zack Michaels finished first in the 100 butterfly (1:04.12), Kylie Cronin finished first in the 200 individual medley (2:13.17) and Grace Maguire finished first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:44.88. Katie Walker won the diving event with 278.55 points.
For Peabody, captain Conor McCarthy won the 100 freestyle and had a personal best time in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.46). The personal best was also good enough to qualify for sectionals.
Captain Paige Hayward hit a personal best in diving with 233.60 points, good for second place.
Also achieving personal bests were Alyssa Bettencourt in the 50 freestyle, Michaiah Jones in the 50 freestyle, Shaelyn Kelley in the 100 freestyle, Nicole Lavoie in the 50 freestyle, Nicole O’Neill in the 100 breaststroke, Andrea Pappacostas in the 100 backstroke and Dolly Patel in the 50 freestyle.
GIRLS’ TRACK
Bishop Fenwick 44, Lowell Catholic 29
The Crusaders (5-0) overcame Lowell Catholic to stay undefeated. Lindsay Donahue placed first in the 55-yard dash (7.95), Carolyn Tracy took first in the shot put (27 feet, 7.5 inches), Grace Foley came in first in the 1000 (3:22.48), and Sydney Packard placed first in the 2-mile (12:36.27). The 4×400 relay team, consisting of Christine Deschenes, Emily Graumann, Hannah Durkin and Grace Foley also won (4:38.80) for Fenwick.
Archbishop Williams 50, St. Mary’s 27
Diana Hallisey came in first in the 55 hurdles (10.88) and placed third in the 55 (8.47) for the Spartans. Grace Fielding took first in the high jump (4-2) while Victoria DiCenso grabbed first place in the shot put (29-8). Mia Nikolakopoulos came in second in the 300 (49.15). Morgan Pappas placed second in the 2-mile (13:28).
BOYS’ TRACK
Bishop Fenwick 42, Lowell Catholic 34
Colin Norton had a big meet for the Crusaders (4-1), coming in first place in both the 55 (6.94) and the 300 (39.28) and taking second place in the long jump (17-8). Matt Loehle placed first in the 600 (1:38), Shawn Carlson came in first in the mile (4:52.7) and Mitch Rivers took first in the high jump (5-2). The 4×400 relay team of Loehle, Carlson, Tony Maida and Derek Dellisola also won (3:58.45) for the Crusaders.
St. Mary’s 45, Archbishop Williams 32
The Spartans saw several first place finishes. James Brumfield took first in both the high jump (5-6) and the 55 (7.15), and placed second in the long jump (17-2.5). Christian Couillard came in first in the 300 (41.10), while Cody Murtagh placed first in the mile (5:00.47).
GYMNASTICS
Beverly 136.3, Bishop Fenwick 129.45
Kayla Pattan finished first in the all-around for Beverly (1-1) with a score of 35.95. Pattan also finished first in the vault (9.3), the beam (9.0) and the floor (9.4). Abby Regnier finished second in the floor (9.0) and third on the beam (8.3), and Ali Rothrock finished third in the all-around (31.25).
