Lynn Tech rode strong performances from captains Nick Westin and Joie Donnelly to a big 93-85 victory over Blue Hills on Wednesday at home.

Westin notched four wins for the Tigers (3-1), including first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 35.45 seconds) and 500 freestyle (6:47.92). Donnelly added a win in the 100 backstroke (1:29.85) and set a new Lynn Tech girls’ record in the 100 freestyle (1:17.89). Coach Brad Tilley also singled out Edgar Ortega, winner of the 200 freestyle (2:40.05), and Steven Paz, Wednesday’s top diver (146 points), as key contributors in the win.

“We were missing a very important swimmer today,” Tilley remarked. “(That’s) what made it such a great win.”

Lynn Tech’s two victories in three relays epitomized the team effort. The Tigers won the 200 individual medley relay (2:17.29) on the shoulders of Donnelly, Westin, Jim Purdy and Juan Bernabe, and the 400 relay (5:09.05), which featured Ortega, Westin, Carlos Gonzalez and Coral Gonzalez.

BOYS’ INDOOR TRACK

Marblehead 71, Salem 10

The Magicians had no issues taking care of the Witches behind a complete team effort. Marblehead’s (5-0) George Goetz and Mitch Norcross placed first and second in the high jump, after both clearing six feet. Salem’s (2-3) Starje Prophete and Jeffery Rodriguez accounted for more than half of the Witches’ points with second-place finishes in the 55-meter hurdle and 55-meter dash, respectively.

Lynn English 55, Danvers 31

Lynn English edged out Danvers to pull even in the Northeastern conference standings. English (3-2) used first and second-place finishes in both the shot-put (Jeremy Garcia and Dan Calnan) and the 55 meter hurdle (Nathan Nop and Matt Moorehouse) to lock up the victory. Danvers (3-2) fell despite strong performances from Jerry Dixon in the high jump (6 feet, 2 inches) and William Brown in the 300 (41.4).

GIRLS’ INDOOR TRACK

Marblehead 77, Salem 5

Marblehead’s (4-1) Corinne Mayle earned five points for the Magicians after clearing 4-8 in the high jump, and Lydia Bongiorno added five more points with her victory in the 300 (45.3).

Danvers 53, Lynn English 33

The Falcons ran away from the Bulldogs in this meeting of Northeastern Conference foes. Danvers (3-2) had first-places finishes from Erin St. Pierre in the high jump (4-8) and the 55-hurdle (9.3) to thank for its victory. English’s (0-5) Faith Agbonsalo (8.1) and Lakedia Hill (8.2) placed first and second respectively in the 55.

WRESTLING

St. John’s Prep 62, Malden Catholic 10

St. John’s kept its impressive season going with a decisive victory over Malden. The Eagles (21-1) notched wins at twelve different weights, from Ryan Garlitz (106 lbs) to Jay Carnevale (285).

Beverly 57, Marblehead/Swampscott 0

The joint Marblehead/Swampscott squad was no match for Division 2 Beverley on Wednesday. Short-handed due to a pair of injuries, Marblehead/Swampscott (1-9) lost nine matchups by pin and one by decision.

Peabody 45, Gloucester 27

The Tanners (4-10) took care of the Fisherman behind pins from Jon Salmeron (160 lbs.) and Marcus Gutierrez (220), and a win from Aaron Sacca (182).

Danvers 54, Saugus 23

The Falcons (8-5) coasted to a conference victory over the Sachems on Wednesday in Saugus with pins from Grady Chan, Russell Canova, Colby Holland, Michael Neff, Jack Anderson, Quintin Holland, Michael Camarro and Zach Schutz.

GYMNASTICS

Bishop Fenwick 129.55, Malden 113

The Crusaders, led by solid performances from Abby Regnier and Taylor Tattan, took care of Malden. Regnier and Tattan tied for first in the all-around with a score of 34.15, while Regnier also took first on the beam (9.0) and second on the floor (8.6). Not to be outdone, Tattan took first on the floor (9.3) and on the bars (8.35). Colbi Flickinger also turned in a strong performance for Bishop Fenwick (2-1), placing second on the beam (8.7).

Peabody 127.45, Gloucester 121.85

Jessica Reid helped Peabody (2-1) to a close victory over Gloucester, finishing first in the all-around (33.65), first on bars (8.7), second on the beam (8.55) and second on the floor (8.7). Aubrey Irvine also pitched in, placing second in the all-around with a score of 31.25.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Revere 68, Medford 29

The Patriots came out with a relentless defensive effort from the get-go and rebounded from their first loss of the season with a resounding victory over Medford. Revere (8-1) was anchored on the inside by center Valentina Pepic, who pitched in 22 points and 13 rebounds, senior forward Maritza Scott (16 points, eight rebounds) and forward Pamela Gonzalez (10 points, 10 rebounds, eight steals). Revere coach Diana DeCristoforo wanted her squad to focus on team defense and locking down the boards, and was clearly pleased with the effort.

“We came out and were on the attack from the beginning,” she said. “We were focused on team defense, not giving up second chance opportunities and protecting the basketball.”
