Lynn Tech rode strong performances from captains Nick Westin and Joie Donnelly to a big 93-85 victory over Blue Hills on Wednesday at home.
Westin notched four wins for the Tigers (3-1), including first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 35.45 seconds) and 500 freestyle (6:47.92). Donnelly added a win in the 100 backstroke (1:29.85) and set a new Lynn Tech girls’ record in the 100 freestyle (1:17.89). Coach Brad Tilley also singled out Edgar Ortega, winner of the 200 freestyle (2:40.05), and Steven Paz, Wednesday’s top diver (146 points), as key contributors in the win.
“We were missing a very important swimmer today,” Tilley remarked. “(That’s) what made it such a great win.”
Lynn Tech’s two victories in three relays epitomized the team effort. The Tigers won the 200 individual medley relay (2:17.29) on the shoulders of Donnelly, Westin, Jim Purdy and Juan Bernabe, and the 400 relay (5:09.05), which featured Ortega, Westin, Carlos Gonzalez and Coral Gonzalez.
