SAUGUS — Kevin Chasse and Carly Mendonca, both from Lynn Classical, were named male and female swimmers of the year at the Lynn city wide swim banquet earlier this month at the Prince Restaurant.
Other city wide awards went to Brandon Musaku, English, John Cahill Award; Sarah Sirois, Classical, Diver/Swimmer of the Year; Briana Silva, Classical; and Nick Westin, Tech, Michael and Michelle Conlon Awards; and Sirois, Classical, Don McKenney Diving Award.
Classical’s awards are as follows: Eric Macorri, Student-Athlete; Chasse, Most Valuable; Cameron Marcinko and Krista Bucko, Most Improved; Elias Bakas and Danielle Hart Coaches Awards; Alex Pedro, Diving; Craig Mordaunt, Peter A. Sawin unsung hero; Silva, Spirit Award; Mehdi Bakhouch, Boosters Award; Kimberly Avelar and Noah Corbishley, Ram Award; Jesus Contreras and Paige Barnard, Monogram Club Award.
The following Rams were given senior plaques: Silva, Barnard, Chasse, Bakhouch, Simon Kazimiericzyk, Allysha Dunnigan, Paola Ayes, Contreras, Jessica Angel, Courtney Braswell, Marcinko, Page, Hart, Angel Solis and Mordaunt.
The banquet paid recognition to Classical, which was the boys’ champion at the Northeastern Conference swim meet and winner of the Lynn City Swim Meet. Also, Classical coach Denise Silva was recognized as the NEC’s Coach of the Year.
Additionally, the Rams’ swimming and diving team was recognized by the MIAA for winning the Team Academic Excellence Award for having a team GPA of 3.695.
NEC All-Star certificates went to Chasse, Mordaunt, Pedro, Macorri, Sirois, Mendonca and Harrison Seitz.
Also, Chasse was recognized as being the conference’s Male Swimmer of the Year. Student-athletes receiving letters were Clara Collins, Hart, Mendonca, Solis and Megan Witkowski. Point bars went to Bakas, Bakhouch, Barnard, Chasse, Contreras, Alaina Gridley, Kazimierczyk, Macorri, Marcinko, Gabriela Marquez, Mordaunt, Page, Pedro, Seitz, Silva, Sirois, Sidney St. Ives and Emily Tardiff.
Next year’s captains are Gridley, Bakas, Pedro, Marquez, Macorri and Sirois.
English winners are as follows: Emma Trahant and Exhidio Gjuraj, Student-Athlete;Kylie Moorehouse and Peter Phelan, Red Gray Award; Matt Bruno, Most Valuable; Amanda Cruz, Most Improved; Donatelo Gjuraj, Coaches Award; Shanel Turransky, Diving Coaches Award; Danielle Carney, Sawin Unsung Hero; Angelica Martinez, Spirit; Abigail Geaney, Boosters; Caroline Zuffante, Bulldog Award.
Senior plaques went to Bruno, Carney, Marina Broufas, Martinez, Ryan Whittier, Katie MacDonald and Elma Dulovic.
Tech’s awards are as follows: Hector Alas Ivaldivieso, Student-Athlete; Westin, MVP; Jin Purdy, Most Improved; Patrick Handley and Edgar Ortega, Coaches Award; Alfred Torres, Sawin Unsung Hero; Allyssa Shaw, Boosters; Jaleem Alicea and Caroline Macdonald, Tiger Award;Westin, Francisco Fresca and Coral Gonzalez, Commonwealth Conference All-Stars.
Senior plaques went to Gonzalez, Shaw, Ortega and Mikayla Handley.
Joie Donnelly broke three records this year: 50, 200 and 200 free.
