The Magicians had to wait until 9 p.m., under the lights of Bezemes Diamond at Peabody High, to play their final game of the regular season against Revere. After their 11 a.m. scheduled start in Revere was rained out, the Magicians had to find a way to squeeze in the game before today’s tournament seedings are decided.
However, it was well worth the wait. Marblehead hung on for a 6-4 win in eight innings over Revere to capture the Northeastern Conference/South title outright.
It wasn’t easy, though. Marblehead took a 2-0 lead after one on a RBI single from Drew Gally (driving in James McCarthy), who scored later on a fielder’s choice.
The Patriots hung around, and grabbed an unearned run in the sixth to come within a run, 4-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Revere knotted the score at 4. With runners on first and third with two outs, Spencer Carr came on in relief of Tedd York and got the inning-ending groundout.
The Magicians didn’t wait to jump back on top. A triple off the bat of McCarthy in the eighth scored Derek Marino and Tim Kalinowski.
