BROCKTON — Things aren’t going well for the North Shore Navigators thus far. The Navs lost their fourth straight to open the season, 11-2, to the Brockton Rox Tuesday in a rain-shortened seven-inning game.
Despite the score, the Navigators still got some good play out of a few players. Clay Yianacopolus (St. Mary’s/Assumption College) made his pitching debut in the sixth inning. Yianacopolus and looked solid, striking out three and giving up a run in two innings.
Riley Herold (Nebraska-Omaha) had a terrific showing as well. He reached base in all three of his at-bats, going 2-for-2 with an RBI triple and a walk.
Herold also scored a run, after Mike D’acunti, from Southern of Florida, drove him in on a single. Herold performed well in the field as well and made some tough plays look easy at shortstop.
The Navigators simply got off on the wrong foot to start the game. They had a tough first inning in which the Rox batted, and surrendered five runs. That set the tone for the rest of the game.
Two of the first-inning runs came from a home run by Jack Lambrecht (UConn), who led the Rox in RBI with three. He also hit a triple in addition to his home run.
The Navigators return to action tonight as they travel to Martha’s Vineyard to take on the Sharks for a 7 p.m. showdown. The next home game will be a Wayne Alarm Fireworks Friday game on June 10 where they will take on the Nashua Silver Knight. First pitch will be at 7 p.m.
