REVERE — K9 Earl, a Belgian Malinois, has a little more protection after receiving new life-saving body armor.
The two-year-old dog, who works with Officer Steve Launie on the night shift, has received a bullet and stab protective vest, following a donation from Vested Interest in K9s Inc., an East Taunton nonprofit. The organization, established in 2009, provides bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies nationwide, Revere Police Lt. Amy O’Hara said.
Earl’s vest was paid for by an anonymous donor and embroidered with the sentiment “this vest proudly donated in loving memory of Rena.”
The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is $1,050. East vest is valued between $1,795 and $2,234 and has an average weight of about five pounds, O’Hara said.
