Update: Michael Bruzzese was held without bail pending a probation hearing following his arraignment today on charges of assaulting and robbing an elderly Lynn man last week, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley said in a press release.
Bruzzese was arraigned in East Boston Municipal Court on charges of assault and battery on an elder, unarmed robbery of a person over 60, breaking and entering a vehicle in the daytime, and larceny over $250.
Assistant District Attorney Lynn Feigenbaum requested bail of $100,000. Judge John MacDonald imposed $25,000 and ordered that he be held without bail on a Norfolk Superior Court probation matter.
The Suffolk County District Attorney and the Massachusetts State Police announced the arrest of Michael Bruzzese for the June 1 assault on a Lynn man inside the Belle Isle Marsh Reservation in East Boston, according to the DA’s office.
Bruzzese, 51, is charged with assault and battery on a person over 60, breaking and entering of a vehicle during the daytime, larceny, and unarmed robbery on a person over 60.
The 67-year old man, whose name was not released, suffered non life-threatening injuries.
Police linked the assault to a May 27 incident at the marsh, which resulted in fatal injuries to Daniel Pepe, 83, of East Boston. He suffered serious injuries while walking and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where he died on June 1.
Bruzzese, who is on probation for a breaking and entering conviction, was taken into custody yesterday. He was arraigned and held overnight at the State Police Barracks in Revere. He will be arraigned today in the East Boston Division of the Boston Municipal Court.
