Navs come up short on comeback

daily_staff

June 10, 2016 by daily_staff

It was beautiful night at Fraser Field for the North Shore Navigators second home game of the season. The Navigators continued to fight throughout the game but came up short, losing 11-4 to their opponent, the Nashua Silver Knights.
The Navigators got a solid outing from their relief pitcher Jake Dexter (Southern Maine). Dexter had a great performance, going 2.2 IP with no hits, no earned runs, and two strikeouts.
In the seventh inning, Mack Nathanson (Wofford) and MacDaniel Singleton (Salem State) brought some life for the Navigators bats. Nathanson drove in a run with a double and Singleton hit Nathanson in right after that to make the score 9-3 in favor of the Silver Knights. Both Singleton and Nathanson went 2-4 on the night and were the most impressive Navigators hitters during the contest.
Their bats stayed hot in the bottom half of the eighth when Keith Leavitt (Penn State) led things off with a triple. He then ended up scoring on a hit by Alex Brickman (Siena) to make the score 9-4.
Unfortunately, time just ran out for the Navigators in their comeback effort. The Navigators were unable to hold off the offense of the Silver Knights. Nashua led off with home runs in four straight innings, and that is part of what allowed them to build a big lead.
The Navigators will hope to pick up a win in their next home game. They play tomorrow night, Saturday June 11, at Frasier Field for a rematch against the Nashua Silver Knights.  First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
