MARBLEHEAD — When Marblehead’s Connor Green left the field at Seaside Park after his final home game for Marblehead High baseball in 2013, he was more than a little disappointed.
“I was just a little down, at the time, because I thought that was the final time I’d play baseball for Marblehead at Seaside Park,” Green said. “Now, to be back playing with the Marblehead Seasiders, with Seaside our home field, it’s really great.”
The Marblehead Seasiders are the latest entry into the North Shore Baseball League, and they had their first game at Seaside on May 21, coming up short against the North Shore Storm. The Seasiders won their first home game June 4, when they nipped the Malden Giants 2-1.
The Seasiders are jumping into the 01945-baseball void after the former Marblehead entry in the NSBL, the Marblehead Yachtsmen folded more than 20 years ago.
Green is the team’s shortstop, and the team’s captain, and his manager, Tom Roundy said it’s great to have him on board with Marblehead baseball once again filling the diamond at Seaside once again in the NSBL.
Connor has really been instrumental, along with our general manager Joe McKane in getting Marblehead baseball playing again in the North Shore Baseball League,” Roundy said. “Connor is doing a great job as our captain, he helped create the Seasiders with Joe, he designed our logo, the hats and the uniforms, and he did a great job. They look great.”
“Connor is back playing baseball after being away from the game for about three years, we’re glad he’s back and we’re glad to have North Shore league baseball back in Marblehead,” Roundy said.
When Green isn’t on the grass at Seaside, he’s on the grass at Tedesco Country Club, doing his best Danny Noonan impersonation, working as a caddy. His father, Bob Green, is the head pro at Tedesco. Green is also doing some work at the Salem Country Club this summer.
He’ll head back to the University of Miami in the fall for his senior year, pursuing a degree in economics. The Seasiders’ captain said he couldn’t be happier to be back on the big baseball diamond, representing a team from Marblehead.
“Joe (McKane) is a member at Tedesco, and I’ve been working there for the past six or seven years, and I knew him a little from when he did some coaching with the Marblehead High baseball team,” Green said. “We started talking about how great it would be to have baseball at Seaside, such a great park with such great history.
“He asked me to put my hooks out and recruit some players, I did that and we got things going, and now we’re back in the North Shore Baseball league playing games at Seaside, it’s great,” Green said. “Record-wise we’ve been struggling a little, but we’re getting there, and it’s great for me, to be a part of it along with Joe and Tom (Roundy).”
McKane said that Green deserves a lot of credit for getting the Seasiders up and running and wearing great uniforms and hats when they hit the field, with a “really excellent looking logo,” according to the Seasiders GM.
“As far as a designer and a recruiter, the kid’s been fantastic, he’s our captain, our leader, and we’re thrilled to have him back representing Marblehead baseball at home and all over the parks where the North Shore Baseball League plays,” McKane said.
