The North Shore Navigators had a tough time with the Torrington Titans Thursday night. After back-to-back wins, the Navs fell in a pitchers’ duel losing, 2-0.
Still, the Navigators got a fantastic effort from their entire staff. Richie Cruz (Florida International) pitched 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. He blanked the Titans into the sixth inning and allowed only allowed three hits.
Jake Dexter (Southern Maine) succeeded him and was also effective. Dexter went 1 2/3 innings and struck out two batters. He got the team out of a bases-loaded jam, though a terrific two-out catch by Colby Maiola (UMass Lowell) out in center field did help him get out of that.
The final pitcher of the night was Brett Morrison, and the Lock Haven University product pitched one inning and struck out the side in order to give the Navigators a chance to make a comeback heading into the ninth inning.
The Navs were not able to get much going on offense during the game, but Mack Nathanson (Wofford College) got two hits, and he got on base in the ninth inning to give the team a chance to bring the tying run to the plate.
The Navigators will return to action tonight when they travel to Nashua to take on the Silver Knights at 6:45 p.m. The team will return to Fraser Field Saturday when it plays the Brockton Rox. That game will be the team’s Salute to the Red, White, and Blue game and veterans will be honored during the game. There will also be a fireworks display following the contest. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
