For the second time in a little over a month, Bishop Fenwick athletic director Dave Woods has brought a former state champion coach into his sports program.
This time, it’s Jim Quinlan, the former boys hockey coach at Saugus High, whose Sachems won back-to-back Division 2 titles in 2003 and 2004, and lost an overtime championship game to Boston Latin in 2005. He will be taking over for boys hockey coach Dan Lynch, who resigned at the end of last season.
On May 31, Woods announced that the school had hired Kevin Moran to coach boys basketball, taking over for John Preziosa, who stepped down after the winter season ended. Moran coached St. Mary’s to a state boys basketball title in 2012.
“Bishop Fenwick is very fortunate to have someone of Coach Quinlan’s caliber and experience leading our program as we move forward and continue to build a Division 1 hockey program,” Woods said. “Coach Quinlan has enjoyed much success as a head coach over the years and brings an outstanding base of hockey knowledge to Bishop Fenwick.
“Coach Quinlan’s passion for the game and for his players is something that is quite obvious and really stands out as soon as you meet him. We are very excited about the future of Crusader hockey,” Woods said.
In addition to coaching at Saugus, Quinlan was also an assistant at Malden Catholic under Christie Serino.
Quinlan took over at Saugus after the 1999 season for Lou Finnochiaro, who had coached the Sachems to a Division 2 state title that season.
