EAST BOSTON — Two men were arraigned in East Boston Municipal Court Tuesday for a physical confrontation at a Winthrop party Sunday morning that ended in an overnight shooting.
Andrew Guilfoyle, 31, the resident of the Winthrop home, and Jared Damelio, 28, of Revere, are charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Guilfoyle was held on $300,000 cash bail and Damelio was held on $100,000. Should either defendant post that amount, they must stay away from the victim and witnesses, surrender all firearms in his possession and wear a GPS monitor.
They return to court on Aug. 4, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.
The victim, a 27-year-old Stoneham man, was treated after surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. State and Winthrop police gathered evidence suggesting that the man had been involved in fistfight earlier at the 233 Revere St. party. The man left the party and returned with others shortly after midnight. He and the others in his group were unarmed, according to the DA’s office.
During a second fight, Damelio allegedly struck the victim in the head with a baton and told Guilfoyle to “get the gun.” Guilfoyle retrieved a weapon, allegedly firing the rifle once at the victim, hitting him in the upper abdomen, according to the DA’s office.
The victim was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is expected to survive. Winthrop police recovered the rifle at the scene, which Guilfoyle allegedly admitted to owning and using during the conflict, according to the DA’s office.
