SAUGUS — Saugus firefighters rescued three ducklings trapped in a storm drain on Tuesday.
“Someone driving by saw the mother duck looking down in the storm drain and pulled over,” said Chief Michael Newbury. “They saw the ducks and called 911.”
Firefighters Kevin Olsen and Michael Ferreira responded. They pulled the sewer cap from the drain and used a net to scoop the ducklings, Newbury said. The process took about 15 minutes.
The firefighters found a “duck family” nearby and placed the ducklings with it, he said.
Newbury said this is the fourth time this summer the department has responded to ducks in danger.
