SAUGUS — The Theatre Company of Saugus will present three performances of “Seussical Jr.,” a musical based on the works of Dr. Seuss, this weekend in the Little Theatre at St. John’s Episcopal Church on Central Street.

A presentation of the sixth annual Youth Theatre Workshop, “Seussical Jr.” is a shorter version of the Broadway musical by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.

The performers are ages 8-14. They have spent two weeks preparing all aspects of the show, including learning the songs, dances and dialogue, building the set and making props and costumes.

Most of the cast members are Saugus residents. Zack Perry of  Lynn is Horton the Elephant. Olivia Mackenzie is the Cat in the Hat. Paige McNeil plays Jojo, the child from Whoville. Grace Antonelli is Gertrude McFuzz, and Anna Falasca is Mayzie LaBird. Liorah Salines-Thomas of Revere is Vlad Vladikov and Abbie Petipas is the Sour Kangaroo. Abigail Wallace and Ariana Brown are Mr. and Mrs. Mayor. Rhianon Brown plays the Grinch and Yertle the Turtle. The Bird Girls are Julie Liuzzo, Samara Machado (of Malden) and Lauren Pozark. The Wickersham Brothers are Liliana Henriques, Caitlyn Muldoon and Kate Petipas.

The workshop and the production are guided by four veteran teachers with the Theatre Company of Saugus: Britt Mitchell is the stage director and acting coach, Shawn Gelzleichter is the music director and vocal coach, Amanda Allen is the choreographer and dance coach and Jenn Ryan Gelzleichter is the stage manager and technical director. They are assisted by interns who are older veterans of the program: Autumn Dion and Caitlin Wilson.

There are three performances of “Seussical Jr.” The opening is Friday, July 15 at 7 p.m. There are two shows on Saturday, July 16; a matinee at 2 p.m. and a 7 p.m. performance.

Tickets are $15 for adults, or $12 for seniors, students and children. Tickets may be purchased online in advance with a credit card or at the door with cash or check. For more information, go to tcsaugus.org.
