LYNN — Two men were robbed at knifepoint in two separate incidents between Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.
Police received a call at about 12:27 a.m. Wednesday from a 58-year-old homeless man who said he had been robbed on Munroe Street. He told police he had been walking when he was approached by a man known to him, later identified as Patrick Kayulu, 39, who brandished a knife and demanded money, Lynn Police Lt. Rick Donnelly said.
When the man told the suspect he didn’t have any cash, Kayulu allegedly swung a knife, striking the victim’s forearm. The victim was taken to Salem Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police located Kayulu and he was arrested and charged with armed assault to rob, Donnelly said.
A driver for Green Tea Restaurant, a 30-year-old Malden man, reported he was robbed at knifepoint by two men while making a delivery on Newhall Street. At about 11 p.m. Tuesday, one of the men showed the knife and demanded the driver’s money and cell phone. He handed over between $150 to $200 in cash and his phone. One of the men is described as black and wearing a white hoodie, but the victim could not describe the other suspect, Donnelly said.
In an incident involving a firearm, a woman reported her car, which is registered to her brother, was struck by gunfire about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday while parked unoccupied on Hanover Street. A bullet struck the windshield and lodged in the vehicle, Donnelly said.
Police recovered a fired round from a door frame and found a live round near the vehicle’s windshield wipers. The woman told police she heard the gunshots in front of her house, but didn’t see who the shooter was, Donnelly said.
