Andrew DiMaiti turned in a good performance in the 400, good for fifth in the DIII national rankings.
Local college track and field athletes had impressive showing at last weekend’s Tufts Invitational at Tufts’ Gantcher Fieldhouse Saturday.
Leading the pack was Lynn Tech graduate and Worcester State freshman Justin Lewis, who finished first in the high jump (6 feet, 8 3/4 inches), which moves Lewis into a tie for fifth place in the national DIII NCAA rankings and a tie for third on the DIII New England list. He also finished second in the triple jump with a jump of 12.77 meters.
Lewis’ performance at the Tufts Invitational earned him Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week award honors.
Lewis’ teammate, Lynn’s Jalil Gibson, also had a good day, finishing fourth overall in the 60-meter dash (7.12 seconds). The time, a personal record for Gibson, qualified him for the DIII New England meet. Gibson also competed in the 200, finishing 12th of 42 runners with a time of 23.57. Also from Worcester State, Peabody’s Marcus Vieira placed fourth in the weight throw (52-3).
St. Mary’s alum and current Tufts junior Andrew DiMaiti also turned in good performances on his home turf, winning the 400 (50.41), which is good for fifth in the DIII national rankings. He also finished second, behind teammate Blake Coolidge in the 200 (22.91), ranking 22nd nationally.
