The 40th Annual Lynn Elementary Basketball Tournament continued on Saturday with a full slate of seven games.
Up first, the Celtics of Connery took on the Falcons of Ford in Division 1 boys play. After being tied at the half, Ford stepped up defensively and won the game 23-7. Ford’s Sadi Buese led all scorers with eight while teammates Gabriel Diaz and Yael Vizcaino scored five points each. Anuedy Blanco and Kymani Phipps were the high scorers for Connery. Ford will play Sisson in the semifinal on Friday at 4:30.
Continuing in the Divison 1 boys bracket, Harrington defeated Callahan, 27-16. Harrington’s Lester Ilah was the game’s high scorer with 12 points. Gedeon Pyrrhus also had seven for Harrington. Lucas Burby scored eight and Marcus Martinez had six for Callahan. Harrington takes on Ingalls in the other D1 boys semi Friday at 3:15.
The first girls’ game of the day was a tight contest between Shoemaker and Drewicz. After trailing by three at the half, Drewicz’s Keisha Perez put the team on her back, scoring 13 of her game-high 17 in the second frame, en route to the 19-15 victory. Lauren Wilson had eight points and Kaydee Rousse had three for Shoemaker. Drewicz next plays Lincoln-Thomson Thursday at 5:30.
Division 2 girls’ play continued as Aborn took on Lincoln-Thomson. A defensive struggle from wire to wire, Lincoln-Thomson secured the victory behind exceptional effort from scorers Hannah Beaulieau, Yazmarie Carcamo and Alessandra Zavala. Aborn’s high scorer was Rachel Dana. Lincoln plays Drewicz on Thursday at 5:45.
Next up a Division 1 girls game between Hood and Cobbet who were coming off their thrilling OT on Friday. Cobbet, down seven at the half, made a late surge in the second half, but it was not enough and Hood came away with the 11-8 victory. Hood’s Eliza Yanes Ruiz was the high scorer with six points. Diana Buenrostro and Vianny Barrios were among the scorers for Cobbet. Hood will take on the winner of the Harrington/Ingalls game on Thursday at 4:30.
Game 6 saw the Lincoln-Thomson boys trying to repeat the success of the girls team, taking on Fallon in D2 boys action. L-T had three players in double figures and came away with the 40-20 win. Almani Medina (17), Miguel Soto (13) and Dakari Eam (10) were all exceptional for the Tigers. Fallon’s high scorers were Sthiben Valdez with eight and Terrence Tyler and Justin Phillips with six apiece. Lincoln faces the winner of the Washington/Shoemaker game on Friday at 5:45.
The seventh and final game of the day was the last Division 1 boys quarterfinal pitting Sisson against Tracy. Sisson’s balanced attack (it had nine players score) was too much for Tracy and they secured a trip to the semifinals with a 31-13 win. Tyler Guy, Nathan Finnerty and Jarvaan Meas were among the scorers for Sisson. Tracy’s Moamel Alazzaw had nine and Jordan Dennis had two for Tracy. Sisson plays Ford on Friday at 4:30.
The last of the quarterfinal games will conclude this Wednesday with the semifinals taking place Thursday and Friday and the divisional finals on Saturday. All games are at Pickering Middle School and admission is just $1.
