The second week of the 40th Annual Lynn Elementary Tournament tipped off on Wednesday at Pickering Middle School with the last of four quarterfinal games.
Game 1 was the first of two Division 1 girls matchups, pitting Connery against Tracy. A tightly-contested game from the start, Tracy took a one-point lead into the half and was able to fend off a last second shot from Connery to win 13-11. Aviana Rivera, Engelyz Bingham and Sonia Lopez had four points each in the win. Connery’s high scorers were Aliyah Volquez-Rosa (5) and Ariana Camilo (4). Tracy takes on Sisson in the semifinal Thursday at 3:15.
The second D1 girls game was a battle between Harrington and Ingalls. Harrington’s staunch defense proved too much for the Rockets and the Hornets came out on top, 10-4. Akeelah Hagans and Erinma Nwoke had five points apiece for Harrington. Zelia Martins and Jakayla Wiggins were the scorers for Ingalls. Harrington will play Hood on Thursday at 4:30.
Game 3 saw last year’s Division 2 champs Washington taking on the Sharks of Shoemaker in the first boys game of the day. The capacity crowd was treated to one of the best games of the tournament so far with both teams trading the lead down the stretch. In the end, Washington was able to keep their hopes of a repeat alive, eking out the two-point victory, 25-23. Denzell Guillen had a game-high 12 points for Washington while teammate Miguel Perez chipped in nine. Shoemaker’s high scorers were Andrew Potter (7), Jordan Em (6) and Shea Newhall (6). Washington next plays Lincoln-Thomson, Friday night at 5:45.
The final game of the day was a high-scoring affair between Sewell-Anderson and Brickett. Kyle Bradley Kemembin scored a game-high 19 points for Brickett, but Calvin Reynold’s five 3-pointers led Sewell to the 35-25 victory. Brendan O’Regan and John Nasky both had eight points for Sewell. Sewell-Anderson will take on Drewicz on Friday at 7:00.
Play resumes tomorrow at 3:15 at Pickering Middle School. All games are open to the public and admission is just $1.
