At the end of an outstanding season for all of our Peabody elementary school basketball teams, the boys from the Welch and Burke elementary schools played in the championship game at the new Higgins Middle School.
In an exciting and fun final game, the boys from the Welch school were able to finish the season as the league and playoff champions, defeating a very talented Burke team, 35-20.
“The PEBL is a great developmental league in which our students learn the fundamentals of basketball, learn about the rules of the game and most importantly sportsmanship and teamwork,” Welch coach Dennis Desroches said. “The experiences and skills our kids learned are invaluable and will last a lifetime.
We are very appreciative to be part of this league. We congratulate the Burke School on making the finals and we are extremely proud of our Welch School Wildcats!”
The Welch team would like to thank Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt for supporting our student athletes, as well as all the officials, game managers, volunteers and the Peabody Recreation Department for a great season.
