A new fast-food restaurant is coming to Boston Street.

The former Global gas station is being replaced with a 2,740-square-foot Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen.

Best known for its Bonafide combo dinners that feature hand-battered chicken in a Louisiana seasoning starting at $6.45 and Po’Boys, the Cajun delicacy made with chicken, shrimp or fish from $2.43, Popeyes is the latest addition to the stretch of eateries from Washington to Chestnut streets.

They will face competition from the other chains including McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy’s, and a half dozen independent shops.

The 26,414-square-foot property across from Stop & Shop was purchased last summer by 180 Boston Street Development LLC, a New York-based entity managed by fast food restaurant executive Amish Parikh, last summer for $920,000, according to county records. The LLC took out two mortgages totaling $16.8 million to develop the property.

The one-story eatery will feature a drive through and 28 parking spaces.

In February, Restaurant Brands International Inc. agreed to buy Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen Inc. for $1.8 billion, adding a fried-chicken chain to its lineup of burgers and doughnuts.

Analysts said the acquisition would be the first major deal for Restaurant Brands, which was formed in the 2014 merger of Burger King and Tim Hortons.

Popeyes, a publicly-traded company, which has more than 2,600 restaurants in the U.S. and 25 other countries, has performed well lately, with the stock gaining for eight consecutive years.
