Led by senior Jack Herlihy, the Swampscott boys lacrosse team (6-3) topped Saugus, 10-6, Thursday.
Herlihy notched four goals and one assist, while Brendan Laundry and Colin Walsh each recorded two goals and one assist. Nick Kersten and EJ Eichler each had one goal.
Swampscott will go up against Salem on Monday at Bertram Field.
Lynn 12, Malden 5
Ryan Clark led the way with five goals and Nicky Duong had four to lead the Jets (2-6) to their second straight win. Quinn Brinkler had two goals, while Mike Clougherty had one goal.
Lynn will play Matignon on Saturday afternoon.
Marblehead 14, Medford 2
Sam Cioffi scored seven goals and added two assists to pace the Marblehead offense to a big win on Thursday afternoon. Manning Sears and Luke Anderson each scored two goals, Thomas Quigley had one goal and one assist and Paul Heffernan had one goal.
The Magicians (5-4) will visit Wakefield on Saturday.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lynnfield 12, Bedford 4
The Pioneers improved to 6-1 with a win at home. Lynnfield led 5-1 at the half, but put the game away with six straight tallies in the first nine minutes of the second half. Nine players scored goals for the Pioneers. Caroline Buckley had two goals and one assist, while Olivia Sarni, Ashley Barrett and Gracie Sperling also scored two goals. Olivia Ellis, Lilli Patterson, Elizabeth Sykes, and Liv Smyrnios scored one goal each. Goalie Lauren Vaccaro made three saves. The Pioneers’ next game is at Masconomet this afternoon.
BASEBALL
Salem 5, Winthrop 3
Bryan Pena earned the win on the mound for the Witches, giving up two runs on three hits in seven innings of work. Ricardo Troncoso went 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two RBI, while Ruben Baez went 1-for-3 with the game-winning two-run double in the sixth inning.
Salem (4-3) visits Northeastern Conference foe Marblehead this afternoon.
Catholic Memorial 11, St. John’s Prep 8
Alex Lane was one of the big providers of offense for the Eagles in the loss, knocking a three-run home run. St. John’s (8-2) will take on Hamilton-Wenham on Sunday afternoon.
Lynnfield 6, Amesbury 3
Lynnfield remained undefeated with its eighth straight win. Kyle Hawes had a big day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, two RBI and four stolen bases. Bryant Dana had an RBI single and sophomore first baseman had one hit and scored a run. Fernando Gonzalez earned the win. He gave up three runs (one unearned) while allowing only three hits in four innings of work, with three walks and two strikeouts. Nick Aslanian earned a save with two innings of relief. Lynnfield’s next game is against Ipswich at Fraser Field on Saturday.
Beverly 8, Malden 3
Spencer Brown was the star of the day for Beverly, getting the win on the mound after tossing a complete game one-hitter and striking out 14 batters. Nick Berry provided the offensive punch with three hits and three RBI.
The Panthers (5-3) will play Gloucester this afternoon.
Malden pitcher Reid Kankel had a solid game, giving up just two hits with seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings of work.
SOFTBALL
Bishop Fenwick 13, Arlington Catholic 9
It was another big day for junior pitcher Natalie Medros, who got the win on the mound after giving up five earned runs on nine hits with nine strikeouts and also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI. Her battery mate, sophomore catcher Tessa Palermo, went 2-for-4 with two RBI and senior outfielder Morgan Grundy went 2-for-4 with a run scored and two RBI.
The Crusaders (3-4) will go up against St. Mary’s in a rivalry game on Monday afternoon.
North Reading 7, Lynnfield 0
The Pioneers (3-3) fell to North Reading (6-0) at home. Lynnfield’s lone hit came in the seventh inning.
BOYS TRACK
Medford 80, Saugus 55
Nick Silva was a double-winner for Saugus in the loss, winning the high jump and the long jump. Kenny Okoye was also a double winner with wins in the 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump, while Bruno Auzec (400) and Joe Alba (800) each won one event.
GIRLS TRACK
Saugus 92, Medford 34
Ailyn Minaya was a triple-winner on Thursday, with wins in the 100, the shot put and the triple jump. Krissy Italiano (400 hurdles, javelin) Kiley Ronan (400, long jump) and Shaylin Groark (discus, 100 hurdles) were all double-winners, while Hayley Dennis (200) and Gianna Filaretos (high jump) each had one win.
