Track Roundup: Classical’s Kalambayi sets school record

Classical’s Elie Kalambayi came in first and set a new school record in the triple jump at the Division 2 championships in New Bedford Saturday, with a jump of 44-7 1/2 feet.

Kalambayi and his brother, Emmanuel, along with Nashaun Butler and Marcus Rivera, placed seventh in the 4×100 relay, and Emmanuel Kalambayi took eighth place in the 200 (23.36).

At the Division 4 meet in Norwell Sunday, Lynnfield’s Nicholas Kinnon won both the 100 (11.20) and the 200 (22.49), while fellow Pioneer Kate Mitchell won the 800 (2:15.92). Fenwick’s Shawn Carlson also logged a win in the 800 (1:56.02). Swampscott also produced a winner, with Dymond Clarke taking first in the triple jump (43-04).

Swampscott’s Ella Parker placed second and Saugus’ Gianna Filaretos placed third in the high jump, both clearing five feet. The Big Blue’s Rebecca Price placed second in the javelin (111-0) and her teammate Maisie Vasquez finished third in the shot put (35-04).

Saugus’ Haley Dennis finished third in the 100 (12.77) and Tech’s Michayla Lawrence finished seventh (13.11). Lynnfield’s Juliana Passatempo finished fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:07.59), just ahead of Fenwick’s Olivia Juneau (5th, 1:07.75). The Saugus 4×100 relay team also had a good showing, finishing second (50.40), and the Lynnfield 4×400 team finished fourth (4:12.11).

Tech’s Akeem Blake finished third in the 200 (23.31) and fourth in the high jump (5-10), and St. Mary’s James Brumfield finished sixth in the 110 hurdles (15.63). Fenwick’s Jack Bowers placed fourth in the 400 (57.84), Swampscott’s Alex Sheehan finished fourth in the javelin (149-08) and Winthrop’s Andrew McGrail finished second in the discus (136-01). Lynnfield’s John Quinn placed third in the pole vault (11-0).

At the Division 1 meet in Lowell, Peabody’s Connor Ramos won the discus with a throw of 146 feet. Gloucester’s Sierra Rudolph won the high jump (5-4). St. John’s Prep’s Nik Reardon (6-6) and Peabody’s Moisse Irizarry (6-2) came in second and third, respectively in the high jump. English’s Juan Avelino finished fourth the 100-meter dash (11.19 seconds), his teammate Sam Adewale finished fifth in the discus (139-11) and the Bulldogs’ 4×100 relay team placed fifth (44.17). Other top-five performances included St. John’s Prep’s Tristan Shelgren in the 2-miles (2nd, 9:32.86), Peabody’s Emily Bacelar in the javelin (3rd, 106-03) and Peabody’s Amanda Andrews in the 200 (5th, 26.14).

At the Division 3 meet in Burlington Sunday, Marblehead’s Joe Doherty finished fourth in the 100 (11.54), Ryan Dumais finished third in the shot put (46-05 1/2) and Sarah Caulfield finished sixth in the triple jump (35-03).
