The Marblehead baseball team came out on top after a back-and-forth contest against Boston Latin with a 6-4 win in nine innings in Thursday’s Division 2 North first round match-up at Catholic Memorial.

The Magicians jumped out to a 2-0 lead and loaded the bases twice within the first five innings but failed to add to their advantage. Beau Dana got the start on the mound and lasted four innings, allowing two earned runs and fanned seven batters. Drew Gally and Tom Rockett followed Dana in relief. Boston Latin took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth. Drew Bisegna’s single tied the game at 4-4 in the seventh. James McCarthy led off the ninth with a double and stole third, setting the stage for Bisegna to bring him home with the go-ahead run. Bisegna scored an insurance run before Boston Latin ended the inning. Marblehead advances to the quarterfinal round where the Magicians will visit Classical on Monday.

“Classical’s a great team,” Magicians coach Mike Giardi said. “They have solid players, guys that I’ve coached in summers. They’re a solid hitting and pitching team and they’re going to work you. We have to be ready to play.”
