The Northeastern Conference tennis season drew to a close Wednesday as the last team in the tournament, the Classical boys, were eliminated from contention.
However, the players and teams were honored as the NEC All-Stars were announced.
The Classical boys won their first-ever NEC North title with a 10-3 record, earning coach Chris Hayward Coach of the Year honors.
Marblehead won the South for the boys, posting a perfect 13-0 record in conference play. The Magicians filled out the All-Conference team, with second singles Felix Litvak, third singles Billy Ackerman, first doubles partners Sam Orenstein and Garrett Tully and second doubles partners Dan Litvak and Jack Quigley making the cut. Beverly’s Enrico Costa rounded out the All-Conference team and was named MVP.
Classical landed four players on the all-star team. Senior Calvin Cheung finished off an excellent career at first singles, while Moses Ba was tough to beat at second singles. The team of Gerry Ennis and Stephen Ong went 15-1. Andy Nguyen was English’s sole representative.
The rest of the North all-star team consisted of: Ryan Daly and Oliver Gibson, Beverly; Alex Nadeau, Connor Mallon and Joe Kowalski, Danvers; Vitya Teague, Malden; and David Grujik, Andrew Sheha and Josh Preciado, Revere.
Marblehead managed to land four other players on the all-star team: Justin Faia, Mike Conlin, Luke Fobert and Adam Sherf. Swampscott’s Owen Madigan-Fried and Steve Santanello also made the cut.
Other members of the South all-star team were: Tripp Hall, Medford; Jared Lubas, Salem; Rezka Yuspi and Jalen George, Somerville; and Cory Cherico, Arthur Borujen and Timmy Duong, Winthrop.
The Marblehead girls team, which went undefeated in the conference (15-0) and finished the regular season at 19-1, won the NEC South and landed five players on the All-Conference team. Michelle Shub (first singles), Hannah Porath (second singles) and Julia Channing (third singles) were all honored as All-Conference, as was first doubles team Megan Ryan and Lily Frontero. Winthrop second doubles team Sofie LaFratta and Kirsten Griffiths rounded out the All-Conference team.
Shub was named the South MVP, while Marblehead coach Tracy Ackerman was named the Coach of the Year. Lynn English earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Classical, which finished 9-6 and earned the No. 6 seed in the Division 1 North tournament, landed three players on the all-star team: first singles Lizzie Troisi, who went 12-4 during the season, and sophomore doubles pairing Abby Stafford and Lexi Ferraro. English’s second singles player Victoria Say was also named an all-star.
Peabody second singles player Laura Franca and doubles player Angela Ferrer made the North all-star team, as did Revere’s Maria Hernandez and Victoria Mom.
Other North all-stars included Shannon Veilleux, Rhianna Leslie, Lauren McKinnon and Riley Doyle from North champion Danvers (12-3), Jane Healy, Alexis Alli and Lindsey King from Beverly, Lisa Quang from Everett and Tiffany Yu from Malden.
In the South, Saugus, which earned the second seed in the Division 3 North tournament with a 16-2 record, landed first singles Lanna Queiroz, second singles Alicia Luongo and third singles Alivia Burke on the all-star team. Swampscott singles player Lily Sanphy and Gina Hollenbach also made the team, as did Marblehead’s other two starters, the doubles team of Kaelyn Attridge and Simone Likterov. Other South all-stars included: Lexi Zubricki and Christina Jones, Gloucester; Daria Agryb, Medford; Elise Boehm, Salem; Zoya Pilipovic and Ashley Valle, Somerville; and Haley Holden, Courtney McSwiney and Dana Marshall, Winthrop.
