REVERE — Making Broadway brighter is just one of the goals for the city as it moves through the long days of summer with a number of neighborhood projects.
The milling of Broadway from Mountain Avenue to Revere Street is scheduled for July 16-18, said a statement from the office of Mayor Brian Arrigo.
The project is part of an effort to power street lights on Broadway, with National Grid completing electrical work to prepare for the new lights.
The plan is to begin paving approximately two weeks after milling is completed, around the first week of August, said the statement. According to the current schedule, the road should be paved and all the lights installed and powered later that month.
In other parts of the city, the Revere Community Committee is inviting volunteers to help clean up Shirley Avenue on July 6 at 5:30 p.m.
The cleaning, which starts at the municipal parking lot, will be followed by pizza and a tree lighting meant to bring a more luminous shine to the street.
Neighborhood revitalization manager Elijah G. Plymesser said the street is a target area for the nonprofit committee, which serves Chelsea and Revere.
He said the cleanup is an opportunity to get neighbors together and brighten the space, in addition to giving the city a nudge toward buying more trash cans for Shirley Avenue.
The community committee has other upcoming plans, including a July 12 ‘‘eat and greet’’ at 124 Centennial Ave. and a Sept. 23 cultural festival.
Plymesser said anyone interested in getting their hands dirty can attend a monthly meeting with the group on the third Tuesday of the month at the Garfield School cafeteria from 6 to 8 p.m.
