The weekly Lynn Woods summer cross country races continued on Wednesday evening. Despite the blazing summer heat, a strong turnout took part in Wednesday’s races as a total of 238 participants ran in the event’s three courses at Lynn Woods. The “Steel Tower via Goat Path” course drew a total of 90 runners, the “Kids 1.59 mile” course drew a total of 17 runners and the 131 runners took part in the “Twin Towers” course.
In the “Steel Tower via Goat Path” course, the top runner of the night was Abrar Jalal, of Lynn. Jalal finished the race with a time of 16 minutes and 26 seconds. Coming in a close second was Bryan DeLeon, also of Lynn. DeLeon finished the course just 18 seconds behind Jalal at 16 minutes and 44 seconds. The next three finishers were separated by just four seconds. Rounding out the top five finishers in the “Steel Tower via Goat Path” course were Aaron Hodge of Saugus at 17:49, Amy Damon of Lynn at 17:53 and Emma Gannon of Salem at 17:53.
In the “Kids 1.59 mile” course, the first place runner of the night was Will Bochnak of Lynn at 13 minutes and 22 seconds. The rest of the top five finished in a close battle, separated by just 33 seconds. Oliver Brooks of Lynn came in second place at 15 minutes and 14 seconds. Also finishing in the top five for the “Kids 1.59 mile” course were Hannah Kollett of Wakefield (15:42), Catherine Salvetti of Saugus (15:45) and Colton Ferguson of Boston (15:47).
In the “Twin Towers” course, the first to cross the finish line on the night was Jacob Johns of North Andover. Johns finished the course in 24 minutes and 37 seconds. Finishing behind Johns in second place was Matt Veiga of Lynn. Veiga crossed the finish line with a time of 26 minutes and 25 seconds. Rounding out the top five runners in the “Twin Towers” course were Jose Leelere of Chelsea (27:47), Paul DeFelice of Centennial, Colorado (28:34) and Chris Smith of Woburn (28:50).
