Razzmatazz Music Festival showcases local talent

LYNN — There’s a wealth of musical talent on the North Shore and the third annual Razzmatazz Music Festival tomorrow will showcase some of the best. Seven local acts, including five from Lynn, will perform at the daylong event at the Lynn Woods Amphitheater, near the Pennybrook Road entrance. Admission is free.

Performers will be the Dirty Floorboards, Set the Nation, Revolver, Foxes, Morgan Weidinger, Tim Foley, and Jeffrey Allen Shaw & Co. Paul and Joe Harper will handle the sound.

Dirty Floorboards guitarist Bailey Trahant, who co-founded Razzmatazz with fellow musicians Tony Uva and Chris DeLuca, said there are fewer acts this year so bands can perform longer sets. “This is the highlight of the summer for us. It’s one of my favorite days of the whole year,” added the Berklee College of Music student.

Trahant said every act is terrific, but he singled out rising indie rock band Foxes, Weidinger and Foley, who will bring along percussionist Kampa Vashi Deva for the gig. “People on the North Shore might not be familiar with Morgan Weidinger. She’s from St. Louis and goes to Berklee. She plays guitar and violin and sings … and she uses loops to create a sound like Ed Sheeran. And Tim Foley is great. He hosts an open mic at Four Winds and is a huge supporter of local music.”

Uva, drummer with the Dirty Floorboards and Revolver, said “This will be a nice, peaceful family-oriented day. We encourage everyone, young and old, to bring a folding chair and have a great time outdoors, listening to some awesome music.”

DeLuca, who plays guitar in Set the Nation, said there will also be raffles, games and food (burgers, pizza, hot dogs, slushes and drinks) available for purchase. T-shirts of the event from Harrington’s will also be for sale.

The three organizers thanked the many volunteers, family members and businesses who support the festival. Lynn Ladder donated the stage and Trahant Roofing will provide the labor.

The event evolved from the former Hodgepodge Music Festival, which spotlighted top local talent during its five-year run.
