LYNN — The future of the shuttered former Marshall Middle School is on the City Council’s agenda Tuesday night.
Neighbors of the Porter Street school that closed in 2015 have complained of vandalism at the 172,500-square-foot property and want to see something done.
Last month, the Council’s Request for Proposals Committee discussed a zoning change for the neighborhood that would allow for single- and multi-family homes, row houses, and apartment buildings. If approved, special permits could be issued to allow assisted-living facilities, mixed-use, or a hotel.
City Council President Darren Cyr has said he is seeking consensus in the neighborhood before supporting any zoning changes.
He has said the property could be a good place for over-55 housing since King’s Beach Towers, a senior housing development on Eastern Avenue, has a waiting list of more than 300 people.
In addition, the council is expected to approve the re-appointment of Ward 6 City Councilor Peter Capano to the Water & Sewer Commission.
