Off-duty Peabody firefighter killed

The Associated Press

July 31, 2017 by The Associated Press

BEVERLY, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts firefighter has died after being hit by a car as he rode his bicycle.

The Peabody firefighters union says longtime firefighter Dan Pimenta died after a crash in Beverly on Sunday.

Police say the driver remained at the scene of the crash. No charges have been filed. State police are investigating.

The union said on Facebook that Pimenta was an avid cyclist who rode in support of multiple sclerosis research. The Salem News reports that he was diagnosed with the disease 25 years ago.
