MEDFORD — Benjamin Brown has been appointed station manager for the new public access station and Community Media Center, located at the Medford Vocational and Technical High School as part of the Medford High School complex.
Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in Digital Filmmaking and Video Production from the New England Institute of Art. He most recently worked as a technology and operations manager for Brookline Interactive Group and a freelance technical director and video engineer for AVI Staging of Boston.
According to city and school officials, Brown’s goal for the Community Media Center is to bring the current model of community media to Medford, expanding from just public access programming to include media literacy courses and other multimedia opportunities for students.
“The city of Medford is very fortunate to have Ben as the Station Manager for our new community media center,” Mayor Stephanie M. Burke said in a statement. “His expertise in managing employees and developing plans for technology within an organization will provide insight for operational use and more.”
In this position, Brown will work cooperatively with an Advisory Board of Directors for the Cable Access Channel and the Medford Public Schools to maintain day-to-day operations, training staff of the Media Technology studio and provide programming as well as studio services to the Medford Public Education Government (PEG) Channel.
The Advisory Board will be appointed by Medford school officials in the near future and will work with Brown in “branding” the new station.
Medford Superintendent of Schools Roy Belson said in statement he is optimistic about the direction of Medford’s Community Media Center.
“We look forward to working with Ben (Brown) to make this great new facility both a very successful community access program and a significant educational opportunity for Medford students,” Belson said in a statement.
Among the educational opportunities for students are a media technology program in the Medford Vocational High School, and eventually developing co-operative learning and internship positions for students.
