MARBLEHEAD — The 78th annual Tedesco Invitational Fourball Tournament teed off early Thursday morning with over 200 participants teaming up in pairs throughout the day. While the participants are mainly members of Tedesco Country Club, there were several players who were invited from other clubs.
The format of fourball is as such: two teams of two golfers compete directly against each other, with each playing his or her own ball. At the end of each hole, the score for each team is determined by the team member with the lowest number of strokes.
In the first group of the day, Peter Brown and Frank Bertolino defeated Clarke Smith and Pete Diffendal to move on. Their opponent this morning will be the team of Paul Danehy and Andy Kilgore, who took down the team of Ned and Rick Breed.
Greg Bates and Ken Seus will be moving on after beating the team of David Hamilton and Phil Grady. They will face Charlie Jellison and Joseph Francis, who defeated the team of Paul Mattera and Rick Filosa.
The team of Tom Peckham and Bryce Suydam beat Mark Lewis and John Fallon, and they will now face Douglas Doben and Peter Frasca (who defeated Bruce Bolen and Winston Clark). Rounding out the first flight of golfers, the team of Ken Bane and JP Monnin defeated Jay Pollard and Tim Phillips to move on. They will take on James Flanagan and Ken Beaulieau (The Meadow at Peabody), who defeated Charles Stacey and Len Cashman (Eastman Golf Links).
The second round of the Tedesco Invitational Fourball Tournament will tee off early Friday morning and continue throughout the day.
