LYNN — Drinking goes to a good cause this weekend.
A bar crawl through the watering holes of Lynn will take place today to raise money for Taso Mavros, who was recently diagnosed with stage three cancer.
Mavros, who has owned Haywards Restaurant for 15 years, moved to Lynn from Greece when he was 9 years old.
On May 3, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma in his tonsils.
“This diagnosis has made us stop to realize what’s really important in life: family, friends, and health,” said his daughter, Amanda Mavros, a graduate of Lynn English High School and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
The fundraiser, set up by his daughter’s friends Taylor Holey and Kileigh Stranahan, is centered around a fun-loving family who would appreciate any kind of assistance during a difficult time.
“The Mavros family has always done so much for me and Kileigh, as well as our friends and countless people throughout Lynn,” Holey said. “Taso is such a great and generous man and never asks for anything from anyone. He gives without expecting anything in return so we felt compelled to do something of this nature for him.”
The bar crawl will begin at 4 p.m. at Haywards Restaurant at 125 Lynnfield St., where shirts and raffles will be sold at the door with all proceeds. Tickets for the day’s events must be purchased at Haywards. Donations are greatly appreciated.
The list of bars and their times include: Jade Pacifica (6 p.m.), Rolly’s Tavern on the Square (8 p.m.) at Tony’s Pub and Grill (9:30 p.m.).
