Eastern Bank Announces Senior Leadership Changes

LYNN — Lynn native and public school alumnus Steven L. Antonakes continues to leave a mark in the financial world.

According to an Eastern Bank press release, Antonakes who was the former Senior vice president and Chief Compliance Officer, has just been promoted to Director of Enterprise Risk Management. His new position will oversee BSA/AML, Compliance, Corporate Security, Information Security, and Operational Risk within Eastern Bank.

In addition to Antonakes’ new role is the promotion of Barbara J. Heinemann who was named the new head of Consumer Banking for Eastern Bank. Heinemann has been working with Eastern since 2001 and has proven to be a valuable asset for the company. Eastern Bank Chairman and CEO Bob Rivers praised her work by stating “her insights, perspectives, and proven, effective leadership skills will have a tremendous impact as we further prepare for our exciting future.”

Antonakes joined Eastern Bank only two years ago but his financial work goes back 25 years. He was previously the Deputy Director and the Associate Director for Supervision Enforcement and Fair Lending at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and prior to that was appointed by multiple successive governors to serve as the Massachusetts Commissioner of Banks.

Antonakes was born and raised in the Lynn public education system. He attended Aborn and Sisson Elementary schools, Pickering Middle School, and Lynn English High School. When asked how the Lynn public education system helped him to get where he is now, he touched upon the beautiful diversity that Lynn is known for. He said that the Lynn public education system and its diverse student body helped shape him to be where he is today.
