PEABODY — A tow truck driver from Saugus is facing multiple charges after allegedly going on a wild ride down Andover Street Monday evening.
Around 6:30 p.m., several callers reported that a black tow truck from Bill’s Towing in Salem was driving erratically, running red lights, and driving on the opposite side of the road.
The truck struck a utility pole near Chandler’s Ice Cream on Andover Street and continued toward Wilson Square before being stopped in traffic near 80 Andover St., according to Peabody Police Captain Dennis Bonauito.
The driver, Stephen Michael Emmith, 30, of Saugus, was taken to Lahey Medical Center for minor injuries, according to the captain.
Emmith was issued a criminal summons for operating under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and possession of a Class A drug.
Bill’s Towing was called to the scene to tow its own vehicle, according to police.
