Saugus vigil to mark anniversary of unsolved murder of Susan Taraskiewicz

SAUGUS — Decades after the disturbing unsolved murder of one of their beloved residents, Saugus is still mourning.

Thursday, Sept. 14 marks the date, 25 years ago, that Susan Taraskiewicz was found murdered. A candlelight vigil will be held that day to honor her memory at 6:30 p.m. at World Series Park in Saugus. Friends and family will gather for the ceremony which will consist of testimony, prayers, and music. The public, as well as members of the clergy and law enforcement, have been invited to participate.

“We are conducting this vigil on the 25th anniversary of us losing Susan to say thanks to the many people who have helped, consoled and supported us over the years, never giving up hope that answers will be found in the tragic loss of my daughter,” Marlene Taraskiewicz said in a statement released by the vigil’s organizers. “We invite everyone to come out to hear about what a beautiful person Susan was.”

Marlene Taraskiewicz has actively fought to keep the case open and has never given up hope that her daughter’s killer will someday be brought to justice.

Susan Taraskiewicz’s brutal murder remains unsolved. Her body had been found inside the trunk of her car, which was left in a Revere parking lot on Sept. 14, 1992. She had been beaten and stabbed to death in what Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley in 2012 called “a crime of terrible brutality.”

”Susan lived in Saugus, she was a local girl, she had a local job with local friends and co-workers. She drove these streets to work and back,” he said. “It stands to reason that the person or persons who killed her may have been local as well.”
