The St. Mary’s golf team teed off its season with a 180-143 win over Bishop Fenwick at Gannon Golf Course on Tuesday. Every St. Mary’s player won his match. Aedon Emmerich led the way with 30 points, while Chris Fioravanti was right behind with 28 points. Christian Emmerich and Luke Smith recorded 26 points each, while Aedon Leydon had 24 points. Luke Sargent and Kevin McMullin each had 23 points in the win.
St. Mary’s (1-0) has a quick turnaround with a match this afternoon against Arlington Catholic on the road at Winchester Country Club.
Salem 60 1/2, Revere 11 1/2
Salem swept its way to a big win to open up the season at Cedar Glen Golf Course on Tuesday. Nick Angeramo won his match 7-2, while Tom Harrington won 6 1/2-2 1/2, Ethan Doyle won 5 1/2-3 1/2 and Troy Zipper won 8 1/2-1/2. Ryan Farley and Clayton Duffin both won their matches 9-0, while Tim Desmond won 8-1 and Tim Farley won 7-2.
The Witches (1-0) will play this afternoon against Ipswich on the road at Ipswich Country Club.
BOYS SOCCER
St. John’s Prep 5, Masconomet 3
Brian Brennan notched three goals and one assist to pace the Eagles as they won their season opener at home on Tuesday. Steven Yakita added two goals and an assist in the win, while Tommy Granada played well defensively.
St. John’s (1-0) will have several days off before its next game on Tuesday at St. John’s of Shrewsbury.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Lynn Classical 27, Gloucester 29
The Rams were able to get the season off to a good start on Tuesday, with their top three finishers all placing in the top six. Junior Mejia led the way for Classical, finishing second overall with a time of 18:27. Behind him were Kevin Durant in third place (18:53) and Matt Leonard in sixth place (23:21).
The Rams (1-0) are back in action on Friday afternoon when they compete in the Lynn City Meet at Lynn Woods.
Marblehead 20, Winthrop 43
Marblehead had three of the top four finishers on the day en route to a big win on the road in Winthrop on Tuesday. Ethan Snook was the top finisher for the Magicians, finishing second overall with a time of 14:49. Oliver Glass was right behind in third place with a time of 14:53, while Will Poss placed fourth with a time of 15:25.
The Magicians (1-0) run next when they compete in the Newburyport Relays on Saturday afternoon.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Marblehead 18, Winthrop 45
Led by junior Alix Livermore’s first-place finish (17:09), the Magicians rolled to a big win in the season opener at Deer Island on Tuesday. Kristy Twaalfhoven placed second with a time of 17:35, Caroline Johnson finished fourth with a time of 17:41 and Lily Gillis came in fifth place with a time of 18:15.
VOLLEYBALL
Shawsheen Tech 3, Lynn Tech 0
The Tigers fell in straight sets to open the season, 9-25, 14-25, 16-25. Kat Barr and Shyla Jackson both played well in the loss.
Tech (0-1) is back in action tomorrow afternoon when they host Chelsea at 4 p.m.
