The Saugus Rotary Club is coordinating a fundraising drive for victims of Hurricane Harvey with the goal of raising at least $10,000 to be sent to Houston.
Even with Hurricane Irma looming over Florida, Harvey’s destruction still dominates southeastern Texas.
The Rotary Club will be offering a pair of Red Sox tickets in a drawing at Founders Day Saturday. Anyone making a donation of any amount to hurricane relief efforts will receive an entry in the drawing. Nine businesses have agreed to match the donations received, up to $1,000 each. They are: Eastern Bank, East Boston Savings Bank, Metro Credit Union, North Shore Bank, People’s United Bank, Salem Five Bank, Webster First Federal Credit Union, Wheelabrator Saugus and York Ford.
“This is a perfect opportunity for us to help those who lost so much in what was an epic storm,” said Saugus Rotary president Tom Carroll. “Rotary strives to make positive, lasting change in the community. This fits that mission perfectly.”
In addition to cash donations, Carroll said the Saugus Rotary plans to collect school supplies to send to a Rotary club in the Houston area, with the assistance of David Gardner, district governor for Rotary in this area.
