Investigators are searching for a “good Samaritan” who stumbled upon a deadly stabbing in Chelsea early Thursday morning. A Revere man has been charged with manslaughter in the incident.
Police responded to the bloody scene near the intersection of Broadway and Stockton Street just after 3 a.m., according to Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes. The arriving officers found two stabbing victims. A 23-year-old Everett man was taken to Everett Hospital (formerly the Whidden Hospital) where he later died. A 34-year-old Chelsea man, who was also injured at the scene, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment and is expected to survive.
A third man, Nabeeb Gonzalez of Revere, was found a block away suffering from stab wounds and was also taken to MGH for treatment. Gonzalez, 37, was charged with manslaughter and armed assault with intent to murder. He was ordered held on $200,000 during an arraignment in Chelsea District court, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel Conley’s office.
Citing witnesses and video footage, Assistant District Attorney Judith Lyons told the court the incident began when Gonzalez and the other men separately entered a parking lot and began to argue. At that point, she said, Gonzalez threw a punch, leading to the stabbing.
The “good Samaritan” was driving by when he saw the injured man and got out if his car to help them, according to the DA’s office.
“Kyes and Conley said that investigators hope to speak with a good Samaritan who stopped to assist injured parties in the immediate aftermath of the fatal encounter,” the DA’s office said. “They stressed that this person is sought only as a witness and is not accused of any wrongdoing. The Samaritan is described as a male, possibly middle aged and Latino, with salt-and-pepper hair. He was driving an older white vehicle, possibly a white Honda Accord.”
The name of the victim will not be released until investigators can contact his family, according to the DA’s office.
